I’m really tired but I just wanted to log a few links to give them some more thought.

The first one is about the RubyCLR bridge by John Lam. This is pretty incredible. I’m interested in the performance of the bridge but it could be something that is useful for writing tools that have a nice windows interface. I have really gotten a lot out of WinForms over the past 2 years.

Second is related to a topic that I spend too many cycles on: logical build structures. Unfortunately the unfortunately named pimpl idiomrequires more than altering logical build structure it has a runtime cost on your software too. I think programming to interfaces is good mojo but it really makes me miss the opaque data hiding you can get away with in C. I think I’ve already completely swallowed the precompiled header pill. Newer versions GCC have done a lot to validate this opinion for me.

Massimo says: “and privates are best hidden (except in some Scandinavian countries with more liberal laws).”
